Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17 October 2026
ByteIP ("we") provides a TV media player and the account portal at byteip.se. This policy describes what we collect and why. The short version: we collect the minimum needed to run the service, we sell nothing, and what we store about your viewing is there only so your own TVs stay in sync.
What we collect
Email address — your account identity. Used to sign you in with one-time codes and for service messages. Login codes are stored hashed and expire after ten minutes.
Device identifier — when you link a TV, the app sends the TV's device ID. We store it only as a cryptographic hash, and use it to recognize the same TV (so re-linking does not create duplicates) and to prevent free-trial abuse.
Your media source details — the playlist or server address and credentials you enter for your own media sources. Passwords are stored encrypted (AES-256-GCM) and are transmitted only to your own linked TVs. We never access those sources ourselves.
Payment data — payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number; we keep only the payment reference, amount, date, the email address of the account and how long the purchase is valid. Payment records are kept for seven years, as Swedish accounting law requires, also after the account is deleted; if you sign in again with the same email, your remaining access is restored from them.
Sync data — so that your TVs stay in step, your account stores your favorites, resume positions and watched markers (as source item IDs, positions and timestamps), recently played items, how often you open each category, and your audio and subtitle language choice. It is used only to show the same state on your other linked TVs, is never analysed or shared, and is deleted with the account. Since 20 September 2026.
Activity days — for each linked TV we record the calendar dates (not times) on which it was in use. Nothing about what you watched. We use it only to see whether the service works and how long accounts keep using it, and keep it for 13 months. Since 16 October 2026.
Error statistics — once a day the TV app sends counts of playback and connection errors for that TV (for example “3 streams could not connect”), with the app version and platform. No addresses, channel names, titles or other content. Kept for 30 days and used only to find and fix problems. Only for paid accounts, and you can turn it off on the TV under Settings → Send error statistics.
Server logs — like virtually every web service, our server logs requests including IP addresses, kept briefly for security and troubleshooting.
What we do not collect
No advertising, no analytics trackers, no profiling of what you watch, and no sale or sharing of personal data with third parties. We do not see the content of your sources. The portal uses a single session cookie required for sign-in; there are no tracking cookies.
Legal basis and retention
We process this data to provide the service you signed up for (contract performance under GDPR). Activity days and error statistics are processed under our legitimate interest in keeping the service working (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can object at any time: turn error statistics off on the TV, or write to support@byteip.se and we will stop recording activity days and delete those already stored. Payment records are kept for seven years under our legal obligation to keep accounting records (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR). Account data is kept for as long as your account exists, activity days for 13 months, error statistics for 30 days. Unlinked devices and expired login codes are deleted automatically.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time. Deleting your account (in the portal, at the bottom of your account page) removes your email, connections, linked devices, sync data and activity days; payment records are kept as described above. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in Sweden: IMY).
